OpenAL - OpenAl is a cross-platform audio application programming interface. it was designed for efficient rendering of multi channel 3D sound. Earlier versions of this framework were open source bu the latest versions are Proprietary. OpenAL was first developed in 2000 by Loki Software, it was developed to help them port windows games to linux. OpenAL can also be used to add realism to gaming simulations. OpenGL was implemented into some of the NVIDIA nForce sound cards and motherboards for a prolonged period of time.
